Emotional wellbeing and family support
Kinship care can bring unique emotional pressures for both carers and children. Keeping your own wellbeing in balance is just as important as supporting the child or young person you care for. There are different types of support available for all the family.
For carers, we offer:
- wellbeing groups
- mental health support
- advice on managing stress
- counselling referrals
- mediation or family support
For children, we offer:
- emotional wellbeing sessions
- support in school
- understanding the court process
- life story work
- specialist therapeutic support (where eligible)
Peer support groups
Many kinship carers find it helpful to speak with others in similar situations. Peer support groups provide a safe space to share experiences, seek advice and build relationships with other carers.
Groups are available online and in person.
Events
We run events throughout the year to bring kinship families together, including:
- Information sessions
- Celebration and appreciation events
- Drop‑in advice clinics
- Training workshops
Events offer a chance to learn, connect and meet other kinship families.
