Family Transitions - separation and divorce (online and in person)

This course is for parents who have been or are going through separation or divorce. It's designed to help you manage the stress of your situation and support your children through it.

It gives you tools and strategies to create a positive new family identity. You’ll learn ways to talk to your child about what’s happening and help them cope.

The course is run in-person as a group, or online in your own time.

What you'll learn

On the Family Transitions course, you'll learn:

  • specific strategies for improving personal coping skills with the aim of reducing stress, anxiety, and anger
  • specific strategies for reducing conflict between parents and improving communication
  • strategies for promoting work, family and play balance, and gaining appropriate social support
  • how to develop independent problem-solving skills
  • how to co-parent
  • how to support your child through family change

Who can attend

This course is for parents who have divorced or separated.

It is not a mediation programme so you should attend on your own or, if you want support, with your new partner. If your ex-partner wants to do the course, you should attend separate groups. We encourage both parents to attend where possible.
