Core Offer: Early Years Inclusion Team

The EYIT is a Local Authority service for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We work with private, voluntary and independent (PVI) sector nurseries, Children’s Centre / maintained nurseries and school nurseries in Camden.

We support nursery settings to implement the ‘Assess, Plan, Do, Review’ cycle, as outlined in the SEND Code of Practice (2015). Our aim is to ensure every child feels included, valued, and supported to reach their full potential.

The team includes:

  • Team Manager
  • Inclusion Teachers and Area SENDCOs
  • Specialist Early Years Educators
  • Speech and Language Therapist (SEMH specialist)

What you can expect from us following referral

Our support may include:

  • meetings with parents and SENDCOs to discuss children’s needs
  • setting/school visits and observations
  • support with monitoring children’s progress over time
  • support with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and review processes
  • advice on strategies and approaches
  • multi-agency planning with colleagues from other teams
  • support with transitions to school
  • general advice on SEND processes and procedures
  • specialist equipment loans
  • signposting to other services or agencies

Process for support

Initial Consultation

  • settings, schools, or childminders can request an Initial Consultation if they have would like advice about how to build on a child’s strengths and meet their individual needs

Referral

  • if an Inclusion Teacher recommends a referral after the Initial Consultation, SENDCOs should refer via CAF with parental consent
  • referrals will be acknowledged within 7 working days of receipt
  • an Inclusion Teacher will be allocated and will contact the referring SENDCO within 30 working days of allocation to arrange an initial visit and observation

Ongoing Support

  • EYIT works collaboratively with SENDCOs, health professionals and other services to ensure inclusive practices and smooth transitions for children with SEND.
