Ordinarily available provision for children with SEND

Ordinarily Available Provision is a set of guidelines for educational settings, such as schools. Provision means the support that should be offered to children or young people with SEND, on top of what's given to others their age.

We've worked with schools, parents, carers, and SEND support services to create this guidance.

Expectations of Schools, Part A includes:

  • national and local-level rules and expectations
  • details about the Special Educational and Disabilities Coordinator's (SENCo) role
  • ways to fund extra support for children and young people
  • Quality First Teaching and what this is
  • how to assess, plan, and carry out interventions, and review progress
  • an overview of Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Needs Assessments

Expectations of Schools, Part B includes:

  • guidance about the strategies and interventions when planning support
  • information around the four areas of need in the Code of Practice
